Red Raider for Life

So I haven't posted in months. Literally. And I have been sitting here on thousands of pictures like a little nest egg. Literally. (about the thousands of pictures, not the sitting on egg thing) So this is all about football. Which, of course, I know a ton about. Test me- Andrew Luck, Collin Capernick, Tebow, crazy Rex Ryan and his foot fetish and tattoo. Dallas Cowboys rule!
Well, Scott knows alot about football anyways. He played in an intramural flag football team this year, just like last year. He has a really strong arm, sometimes too strong for other people to catch. Best on the team, or any team, in my opinion at least. Actually, one of the few times I have embarrassed Scott was about sports. It was orientation day at BYU-H, and you have to go around to all of these little booths. And we stopped at the one for their sports teams, and I told Scott he should try out. The guy at the booth asked me if Scott was good, and I said yes, and then Scott got really red and said "No, I'm not". Then they asked Scott where he played high school ball, and he said "I didn't even play in high school". And then he forced me to move onto another booth, because he was super embarrassed. But after seeing some of their games, I still think he could have made it.
And here are some of the pictures of him in action. You decide!
This is where they ripped Scott's shirt. Another one! Grrrr.
So near to the field goal line.
I love the lunge positions in this picture. It's like a dance shot. But much more manly, of course.
Our friend Ben Neff playing even though he was wearing a knee brace all week.
Our friend Johnny making a grab for the flag.
The second half of this post is about high school tackle football. Kahuku Red Raiders for life! The local high school, Kahuku, made it to the state championships (and WON!). They played Punaho high school (that's right, the high school Obama went to, and more importantly, Manti Teo). All year long we had been promising a kid from our ward, Kaewi Johnson, we would go when they made state. And they did, so we went. It was AMAZING. We were 2/15 people on our side not wearing red. Everyone was so into it. All of my high school games were really just a fashion show and a chance to socialize, and that's how a lot of college games are too. But everyone was SO intense at this game. They were painted and wearing red and everyone was yelling and sitting on the edge of their seats. The guy behind us kept telling us that Kawie was going to be the best man at his wedding (the guy was about 30 and had never met him)
Look at this sign! Only in Hawaii do they let you hold up signs with blood drawn on it. I was dying laughing when I saw this. Kahuku Red Raiders are thugs.
Here is Kawie making a touchdown! This kid is tiny, only a few inches taller than me and not very big (especially as Polynesians go). But he is fast and smart. He literally plays every position on the field, and does it well. Offense, defense, wild-cat QB. All of the North Shore adores him. The guy behind us (same crazy guy) kept yelling "Get them Kawie! Get'em!" And I would search the field for Kawie to see what crazy position he was in now, most of the time he was on the field, sometimes he wasn't.
Handshake after the inevitable slaughter of Punaho.
Kawie Johnson, MVP of the game.
This was probably the best part. After they won, not a single person on the Kahuku side left the stadium. Then the team did the Haka. With their shirts off. If it wasn't so intense it would have been really, really funny.
As Scott said, "it was a spiritual experience". And as Manti Teo said after he won his game that week; "Congratulations Kahuku, and Punaho- get back to work!"
