January 22 was Maverick's first birthday!
This year flew by. What a whirlwind of emotions. Adding a child to your family means so much love. So so so much love. But also so so so much frustration. And exhaustion. And little bits of other emotions- sadness, guilt, anger, etc. Moms have this endless job of taking care of this thing we value most in the world, 24 hours a day, with no sleep. And it vomits on us, so we smell disgusting. And it doesn't sleep when we want it to. And we can't get anything else done. Or when you do get anything else done you feel guilty because that means you had to give less attention to the baby. And then sometimes you just NEED A BREAK. But taking a break makes you feel guilty, because you are the mom and you should be able to do this. And who should need a break from an adorable baby? But taking that break makes you an even happier and sweeter and more attentive mom when you get back.
Am I making sense?
Probably not unless you have children. So just takeaway from that big ramble that we love our Scott Maverick to the moon and back. But this year has been so tiring!
But now he has crossed the one year threshold, so I can just relax, because it's all downhill from here right? ;) Joking. I am a mother, I will never relax again. ;)

In January, Maverick:
  • Discovered spoons! He was actually given a few for Christmas, and he carried them around. He prefers to have at least one in each hand. He also discovered that if you put little bites of banana on his spoon he can put it in his mouth by himself! (Very slowly, and with some miss-tries) He loves to sleep clutching a spoon in his chubby little paw. One day we were running low on spoons, and as I was cleaning I moved his crib. There was a pile of seven spoons underneath!
  • Figured out how to climb ladders! (Yikes- I know!) He found one up to his cousin Kale's bunk bed and figured it out immediately.
  • Learned to walk! He took his first steps on his birthday. We went to a big indoor play place in Discovery Bay, and me and Scott were playing Peek-a-boo with him through windows in a playhouse. Mav got so excited that he was taking steps in between the windows to see us pop up! Babies learning to walk is hilarious. Always falling down unexpectedly, crawling whenever they perceive a change in flooring because they are scared, legs flailing about hazardously like a drunk.
  • Loves to chat! Lots of 'mamamamama' and 'dada dada' to everything. He hasn't quite figure out what they mean yet but he has become very vocal.

I'm still counting how old he is in months, so he's still a baby right? I figured I can do that until he's about two.

Enjoy some pictures!

Birthday Cake!!!
None too impressed with mom's cupcakes.

It was past his bedtime.

His cousin's were very excited for his birthday. They are trying to get him to eat his cake and like his new books. So sweet.
One year down- eternity to go! A family picture on his first birthday. Happy birthday sweetheart. Thanks for completing our family.
